Default Best substrate for leopard geckos...?

Can anybody think of which ones best? They all have pros and cons but at the moment, all I can come up with is kitchen roll!! (although it gets very untidy)

Thanks!!

I always use course grade beach chip. too big to eat acidently, wood not sand, so not eaten deliberatly for minerals, looks fairly natural (compared to paper anyway) and still allows for digging.

i would recommend for bubbas - reptile carpet (zoomed cage carpet, its machine washable) or kitchen roll!! a worry-free feed everytime

for adults, fine grade sand, or kitchen roll!!

I use carpet tile in my vivs - looks like sand, completely un-swallowable.

If I wanted something more natural I'd use stone tiles.

We use kitchen roll for babies and we have calci sand in some of the adults vivs, and playsand in the rest.

Just switched our smallest male over as he's getting big now (40g) and he loves the playsand! He digs all night bless him!!! He always tried to in kitchen roll and ripped it up, so sand was right for him.

I used some kitchen cleaning towels for my juvinile, its just as good as using reptile carpet and its squishy when it gets wet lol. in my adult i have calci sand. he seems to enjoy it alot. so i say for adults get play sand or calcium sand as its easy to spot clean the poopy, and for younger leo's use anything that wont create an impaction. paper towels and reptile carpet work best.

I'd just like to note that it is still possible for adult leopard geckos to become impacted on play sand/calci sand.

I lost an adult female that way.

Yeah Ssthisto your right
Leos arnt really supposed to be on sand anyway....they come from rocky outcrops in the middle east and dig through soil not sand .
Leos including the adults will lick everything including sand substrate , i have seen plenty of adult leopard geckos die of impaction which have been bought into the store over the years where i work , its not a pleasent sight, alot of them were adults that have been feeding only from a bowl in there enclosures that have died from sand impaction.
Anyway i keep all my leos on slate kitchen floor tyles it works a treat and is 100% SAFE just as repti carpet etc is too
