Im quite tempted to refurb my rep room and the front hinged vivs would be easier to build.
So im quite tempted to do it. I just wondered why others havent done it already!!! Jpster

im planning to use hinged doors on the front of my new water dragon viv. they are going to be all perspex, no frames, with the hinges attached directly on one side and locks on the other. the doors will be split horizontally, il probably have 3 or 4, so i can access different heights independantly rather than have the entire front open, losing heat and giving water dragons a chance to escape lol
ive not done it yet though so no pictures. but i prefer hinged doors to sliders, they give you much more access.

I'm considering using these for my viv room build as they are cheaper than runners and give better access.
I have found them for £2.43 a pair in black or chrome. Also cheaper if bought in quantity which would be needed for doing whole viv room. |

When people mention heat loss with any viv bar "sliders" is it a big loss or marginal?
Im dying to build some new vivs as a few of my reps are due an upgrade due to there rapid development and growth. Jpster

marginal. if youve got a door that opens the entire front then youre opening twice as much area as with sliders. if youve got the door open for say 10 mins to clean them, youre going to lose heat quite quickly in that time down towards ambient temperature. it will only take 10-20 mins for it to heat back up again once you shut the door, but if you clean daily then it might make a slight difference to the electric bill.
im splitting mine into several doors for accessibility purposes, not so much as a heat issue. its not going to make much difference at all over sliding glass. im using perspex on mine as well which is a much better insulator than glass, it can get scratched (and can also be polished quite easily to remove scratches) but its just so much easier to work with with you want hinges without a frame.
