Default How much will i need?

I am looking to change my substrate soon and going to move to eco earth but i have not a clue to how much i need for my viv as they come in bricks that expand to 7ltr and i have always worked in kg.

The viv is 6x2 and the sustrate will be 8" thick can someone help me on this?

6ftx2ftx8in

= 0.22683216 (cubic meters)

convert that to litres

= 226.83216 litres

divide that my the 7litres a brick makes = 32.4 bricks

so lets say for arguments sake that' s 33 bricks

Ahh the joys of google

Alan

big bag of sterile compost, some playsand, and some orchid bark, then get a few of these Fertile Fibre Online Shop

get a gorilla tub or another kind of huge bucket, fill it with boiling water. add everything to it and mix it all up, this should kill off any bugs and parasites within it all. stir it all around then drain off the water (you may have to do this is several stages) and let it all dry out again. stick it in the viv and that should give a nice stiff substrate for digging in and what not. im not sure if a Bosc will like it, i have no idea on their specifics. but it makes a good earthy substrate with a bit of variety.

Two bricks did the bottom of my 24"x18" Exoterra to about 2 inches depth. So if you want something four times deeper, with four times the area, I estimate you'd need 32 bricks. That tallies with the other answer, so sounds about right.

don't buy the bricks, get the bigger packs. They're about 15 quid and like a foot cube. expands to 150 litres i think...

Alan

You get three bricks to a bulk pack for £6 so if i needed 33 bricks that is 11 packs @ £6 so by my calculation that's £66 not £196.
