Default Alternate method of preparing wood

Was looking on an American forum and one person was using a torch to rid wood of mites etc and it gave the wood a cool effect to it too. Wondering whether this might be worth a try? Anyone do this?

Thanks,
Brad

Would seem safest.

If a normal torch then no, I wouldnt risk, some not being afraid of light.

many critters normally live under the bark between the bark and the wood. If you try to heat/freeze/bleach etc the wood you have to do it for quite a while to affect stuff inside the wood. Throwing boiling water over a branch will maybe kill off anything on the surface but not under the bark. Wood and especially bark is a really good insulator.

have a look for a thread i made about using dry ice to produce a carbon dioxide environment. if you can put it into a sealed container and expel all of the oxygen then everything that breathes will suffocate (including mites and parasites) but plants, etc are unaffected by it (not that it matters in this situation if youre just sterilising branches)

Would a water jet pump thingy used for cleaning cars with high pressure strip off the baddies?
