Can I use 18mm chipboard?

Can I use normal 18mm chipboard to make a viv? I've been told on another forum that it's not strong enough, is this true?

you'd have to seal it 100%, so you may as well use "melamine faced chipboard" (contiboard)...

The problem with melamine is that I can't find it in 3ft wide pieces

i managed to get 8x4 conti from BQ,think it was £25 a sheet.

The b&q website doesn't list any that large?

They do stock it in white it seems but no other colour.

Having priced it all up it's not much cheaper than the quote I currently have from someone who knows what they're doing so it's not worth me doing it myself and potentially making a pigs ear out of it. If I could have done it out of chipboard and coated it with PVA then that would have been about £100 cheaper!
