Fake rock as substrate?

After seeing all these fake rock backgrounds and thinking to myself i gotta start getting into the arts and crafts way of things im wondering if a fake rock substrate would be good for a beardie, i dont like using sand as the impaction issue and at the moment i have repti carpet but i was thinking about doing a fake rock substrate, it would be easy to clean (as long as using a waterproof sealer) and i think could be really cool, with possibly a little cave for my beardie to go under if he wanted to, what do you guys think?

I thought about doing that when I had my BD but wasnt too sure on how easy it would be to clean (With it having a textured surface would it make cleaning more difficult wether it was sealed or not and if it wasn't textured - what would be the point) so I just stuck with tiles.

It would be a nightmare to clean properly, as fake rocks are usually textured, the poo would get into all the tiny holes and would start to smell. As long as your beardy is over a year old, try him on playsand. Once theyre over a year old, playsand is small enough that the grains pass straight through their stomachs, and it doesnt clump together like calci sand.

My beardy absolutely loves sand now, she spends most of the day digging around in it, sometimes just her head is poking out! There are loads of pros: it holds the heat well, is really easy to clean (you just scoop the poo out and replace it with a bit of fresh sand) its cheap (2.50 for a 15kg bag from argos), its non toxic, natural looking, and the only downside is it makes a horrible noise in the glass runners.

Ahh i might try sand then, i'm sure i was told bad things about sand a while back but i suppose if playsand is non toxic and she can digest it properly if she accidently munches a bit then its all good cheers
