Default Branches!

I want to put some more branches in Tommy's viv. Has anyone gathered logs/branches from a woodland/forest and used them in a cham viv? If so, do I need to bake them or is washing them with hot soapy water & bleach better? Are there any trees to avoid? I have some kind of cherry blossom tree in my garden, would that be safe?

Well, standard advice is to bake them, but more and more I've been using stuff "au natural".

I suppose it depends on the animal, and the humidity. If you are not confident there will not be anything dangerous in the wood then bake it. If the enclosure is dark and high humidity, then it might be an idea to bake it to remove fungal spores that would rot the wood.

Some branches are toxic, but cherry should be ok- can be a bit slippery, though.

Hi,

Just make sure the wood isn't toxic. I don't bother with cleaning/boiling/washing/bleaching/microwaveing/baking/offering your first born as a sacrifice...

I have got a few branches from trees. I remove the bark (and most of the critters at the same time) and wash them, then leave them for the sap to dry out - takes about a month in the garage.
