Loads cheaper to make your own in my experience. Buy wood from b&q and have it cut there and then. As for glass and runners, just go to yell.com and search for glaziers. I'd be amazed if you're more than 15mins from one that will stock them. That said, most people on here will tell you to get runners etc from people on here. That's great if you wanna give your name, address and credit card number to a stranger on a forum and then wait around hoping you're in when/if it turns up!! My advice, pop down to your local glaziers!

Not sure where you get the part about credit card details from? not something i've ever asked for when selling runners.

As for name and address details, well they are obviously required in order to post to the buyer - just as they would with any other online/mail order transaction.

You'll probably find that buying from here or another site is cheaper than buying from a high street store too.

But that's just my opinion.

Cheers,
Volly

all depends on how you want your viv to look it can start costing alot but if you want a basic viv defo cheaper as you can find most of the materials around your house, glass is the only thing that will really cost anything but its not that expensive.

I agree with most people here, I am in the process of building two Viv's as I want to separate my three Beardies I have just bought, (will have to anyway)

I have an old solid double wardrobe that laid on it side is almost enough wood for two viv's, chopping this around will give me at least one and I will be making a smaller Viv with the remainder of the wood for future use or if I need to house a Beardie in a hurry.

For the second I will be looking at my neighbour who has some wood in his shed I can use.

So if you are able to put your thinking cap on you can reduce the cost, all in all I will be looking for around £40 to £50 for each Viv, (hopefully) for the remainder of the items needed, (glass, lights, etc)

So to answer your question YES it can be a lot cheaper I will be saving approx £100 / £120 on each Viv, all depends which area of the country you live in.

BUT, if you are not confident in your D I Y abilities it is best to buy, good second hand set ups can be found, you will just have to haggle over the price, so long as they are in good condition and cleaned thoroughly, I have also looked into this.

If you have some old furniture or know someone who has this could be a cool thing, I have a friend who has turned an old TV cabinet into a really good Viv, he has left the doors on the front so they can be closed at night or when the Beardies are stressed out, or sleeping, looks very good in the lounge and with the doors shut you would not think it was anything other than a piece of furniture.

Hope my comments help

In my experience of buying things online, you generally are required at some point to give credit/debit card details. If not, how else do you pay? (Im not trying to be argumentative, I would genuinely like to know!)

As for which is cheaper, well I got 2x 2mtr lengths of runner for (from memory) less than a fiver from a glaziers 5mins away. I don't know what you charge but I can't see the point in recommending that somebody buys online something they can buy off the shelf for pretty much the same cost.

I wouldn't take it as argumentative, lol.

I accept cheques, postal orders, bank transfer or cash in the post and I don't have to ask for anyone's credit/debit card details as I don't have the facility to accept them.

The risk really lies with me as it's ME who's gives out my bank details to complete strangers if they want to pay via transfer.

As for being able to get things cheaper locally, that might be the case. I'm just going off B&Q's prices and local glazier's to me, compared to my prices - I win hands down and so do most of the other supplier's on here.

Hope that helps to answer what you needed to know and I am also, not here for an arguement, lol. Just answering what you asked.

Best regards,
Volly

I tend to agree with volly. By the time you get your conti board & cut to size, glass, runners, vents, rear panel, screws & silicone sealant etc. Plus the time it takes to then make the viv. I doubt theres much in it. Except for the look of the finished article.

.

if you're shopping online you're dealing with a company who can accept credit card payments. If you sold something on here you wouldn't be able to take a credit card payment and neither can anybody else.. Like Volly said, cash, cheques, paypal, P/O's or swapping stuff.
