After the relative success of my fake wall background

http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/forums/habitat/744517-first-ever-fake-background-2.html#post8878697

Ive used the same sort of process as before as it seams to have worked well.

I thought i would use up the bits left over and make a cave type hide for one of the leos. here are the pics so far

Base all carved out with entrance and raised shelf

Lid cut out and positioned for carving to shape

Inside of lid recessed to allow some room for movement

the two pieces placed together and carved to make it look more like one unit

First layer of grout added

Small update

tried to do a little bit tonight, added 2 base layers of dark brown. Got to wait for it to dry now before i can drybrush with a lighter shade of brown and then seal with varnish.

The pics

Nice and dark for my Leo

And the inside of the base.

Dry brushing - COMPLETE

As the base layer of paint cured much faster than anticipated i cracked on with the dry brushing, a layer of lighter brown was added over the entire surface. then once dry a highlighting layer of light green here and there for accents.

Only varnishing left now.... but that is tomorrows job

And some macro shots to show some of the detail

Cheers
