Default Newbie Getting Started- Reptile Shows & Events

Hi All

I'm relatively new to the whole reptile scene but my mum has a Bearded Dragon, Anoles and Tree Frogs and i recently had the pleasure of looking after them for a week while she was away.

I've gotta say that i found it really enjoyable and it got me really interested in getting a reptile of my own!

I have been doing alot of research and have become really interested in the geckos, particularly the Cresties and Gargoyles. I've also got good old mum for some advice as her reptiles are really well looked after and get lots of attention!

I have got myself a large Exo-Terra and i'm in the process of making a nice live setup with natural plants (pothos, ficus and plenty of vines and branches etc) and will hopefully soon have a gecko to call it home!

I am pretty up to speed with all the basics now (housing, temps, lighting, humidity, feeding etc) but would still love to hear from anybody who has any good advice for a newbie gecko owner and particularly from anybody just starting out with a llive setup who has any tips or advice on what to look out for/avoid.

While trawling through the internet doing research i've come across a few comments mentioning Reptile shows and Expos and would like to hear any info about these (where they are, what goes on there), apologies if there's details already on the forum but i thought this might be a good place to start!

I'm based in the South East so any in particular around that way would be great to hear about!

Thanks in advance for any help or info and i look forward to hearing from people!

There are quite a few shows in the UK, but almost all of them have passed now. Portsmouth is this Sunday and I think that's the closest to the South East there is - there are also 2 shows in Essex, but they have gone for this year, and one in Kent, also gone. The other shows left for this year I believe aside from Portsmouth are Norfolk and Rodbaston (West Mids).

There is a whole section in general herp chat dedicated to shows which has the list of UK shows 2008 and the first few 2009 dates - but most of the shows have not yet decided on a date for next year so it's very much watch this space.

Thanks for the information, i am a bit late in the year so i did think that i may have missed a few but at least i can look forward to next years now!

I live in Essex so that's good to know there are a couple locally, i'll have a look into those.

I'll check out the General Herp section and keep my eyes peeled for updates!

Thanks again, appreciate the help.

Sorry to hear that, I know how you feel though!

That's normally the case for me with events & stuff that i'm interested in so it makes a change to have something local in this case!
