Default Reptile Show 3rd October

Thanks for your welcomes.

Spring is here with a vengeance and the trees are blossoming out of control - since most of them are fragrant, the whole place smells like a perfumery. A good thunderstorm last night - we had to unplug televisions, PCs etc as the lightning can be fierce - we lost our chimney and half our electrical goods two years ago. 2" rain in 6 hours - not bad.

Apologies about the title - a bit naughty, perhaps, to get you excited about a reptile show that you can't visit but the annual Exo Terra Reptile show is this coming weekend. It is a 2 day event and promises to be every bit as big as previous years.

We shall have a stall, displaying chameleons - not many as I don't think shows are a good place for such stressed animals - and various types of praying mantis, stick insects etc. They will primarily be exotics as there are some strict, confusing and contradictory laws on indigenous animals.

I shall be launching the first book printed locally on how to keep and breed exotic chameleons in South Africa - there is not a lot of difference between here and elsewhere except we are fortunate in being able to keep them outdoors for much of the year, which is a boon for the UV.

I'll try to take some photos of the show and post them next week.
David
www.mantispress.co.za if you want to have a peek at the book or www.sa-chameleons.com to see what a South African chameleon site looks like - and in case you were going to ask - I cannot send any livestock from here! Sorry.

Hi and welcome

My brother migrated to SA and he lives in Durban now.

He works with various snakes and other reptiles - so i hear a lot about your wildlife there from him
