Default Meal Worm/Beetles CareSheet

This Caresheet is about the keeping and breeding of Mealworms and Beetles.

Housing

Many people use Tupperware tubs or containers to house them, it is a good idea to have differant containers for each stage, One for the Mealworms, one for the Pupae, and one for the Beetles.

Feeding/Watering

It is a good idea to use bran or even wheatabix to put on the bottom of the container as this is what they like to eat the most, it is also a good idea to provide vegetables like sliced potatoe, cattot etc. as they get alot of moisture from this.

Cleaning

The containers should be cleaned out weekly, as the potatoe and bran will rot quickly, and will start to smell terrible, to remember to keep them clean, a dirty container will not keep them alive for very long either, as I have found out for myself

I thought you were supposed to leave the substrate in, because it'll be full of eggs? Not clean it out all the time.

The meal worms being stage one do not lay eggs.
The pupae being stage two do not lay eggs.
Only the beetles lay eggs and by ensuring the veg is not in the container for too long it will reduce the smell.

Unfortunately regular cleaning of substrate will loose the eggs however by cleaning the beetle out less regular than the worms you can reduce the number of eggs you loose.
