Default All Scolopendra subspinipes Species Care .

Hi All ,

Seems that every one who gets a centipede buys one of the scolopendra subspinipes species , so I thought why dont I do an over view on care of all of the Scolopendra subspinipes species ,

Only Rules I have got for keeping safe around these are ,

1.Dont Handle
2.Dont Tease
3.Be Carefull

So Here I go .

This Should Cover All the Basic Care Of All
Scolopendra Subspinipes Keeping ,

This Includes all Unown S.subsinipes species ,

Species Include ,

Scolopendra subspinipes dehaani
Scolopendra subspinipes fulgurans
Scolopendra subspinipes gastroforeata
Scolopendra subspinipes japonica
Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans
Scolopendra subspinipes piceoflava
Scolopendra subspinipes subspinipes
Scolopendra subspinipes cingulatoides

Over-View Of Scolopendra Subspinipes ,

Scolopendra Subspinipes originate all over the world ,Scolopendra Subspinipes have the record of haveing the worst venom of all centipedes and haveing a very painfull bite to match , they are also the only centipede of medical importance and are the only centipede that are known to have caused a human death , A 7 year old girl from the Philippines , the centipede bit the girl on the head and she died 27 to 28 hours later , Please note that All Centipedes have venom and will not hesitate to bite you some people may be allergic to the venom and may go into anaphylactic shock and you could die if not treated dont be the one to find out that your allergic by geting bit you have been warned , These Centipedes grow to a good size , rangeing from 6 inch to up to 10 or even more depending on the age of the centipede , They come in a variety of colours but most specimens are brown to reddish brown with yellow to yellow-orange legs but come in many other colours. They Are Agressive and Fast as are most Centipedes, these centipedes are very common in the invert hobby and you can and will get a hold of one with little expense ,These are not a boreing centipede to keep so you should not get feed-up with them ,As I say for all aggressive inverts keep safe and handle with care ,

Care Sheet .

Origin Range - All Over The World .

Antilles , Australia , Vietnam , Thiland , China , India , Malaysia , Java , Borneo , Japan , Brazil , Philippines , Korea , Taiwan , Ryukyu Islands , Saipan , Sulawesi ,
Tomohon , West Africa , Ect.....

Type - Terrestrial / Burrowers

Temperament - Fast & Agressive always use tongs

Diet - Pedelings / Any small Live-Food / Adults / Any Large Live-Food / Feed Once a week / And a pinkey mouse every so-often .

Full Grown Size - 6 to 10 Inchs

Growth - Fast Depending on Species

Temperature - 25 to 28 centigrade

Humidity - 65% to 90% always make sure you have a full warter bowl that you over flow & mist sides of the tank 2 times a week you should try to keep one part of the tank bone dry because to much humidity can cause problems such as mycosis .

Housing - Pedelings can live in Tall Spiderling pots or cricket boxs , Adults 5 to 10 gallon tank make sure the centipede cant escape the tank should be 3 times as long and hight should be 3 times as high and the tank must be ad-least 2 times as wide as the centipede .

Substrate , 6 to 8 inchs of peat or potting soil or any other substrate that wont harm the centipede .

Decor - Make Sure the centipede has something to hide under , cork bark , stones , rocks , ect...... as centipedes love to brush up against things .

My Notes of keeping these types of centipedes .

They Are very active
They Will eat lots befor molting ,
They Will bite and attack any-thing ,
If they Dont attack they will try to escape and run very fast I have had ones that try to chew out of plastic boxs ,
They dont hide much and are on the surface most of the time but its good to put a hide in anyway ,
And Make real good show pices .

Hope Your happy with this .

Thanks Jon Armstrong .
