Exclamation COLD WEATHER - A warning for purchasers

There seems to be a large number of newcomers to the hobby of late, and there seems to be an increase in inexperienced sellers posting livestock during the last week.

****Heat pads will not function correctly the in temperatures that the UK is currently experiencing.Posted invertebrates will likely die during transit.****

It is highly recommended that no one make any postal purchases until the temperature starts to rise. You risk seriously harming the health of any posted livestock.

tell me bout it! had sudden change in temps from cold to sub-zero and frost/snow on day of receipt of delivery, they looked the worse for wear when i unpacked them, but fortunately with a little bit of t.l.c. and gradual temp increase they look as they they will all make it,nobodys fault really, they were a trade and the other party and myself reckoned they would be o.k. with heatpacks( even backed the heatpack with astrofoil to diect heat more accurately),then the weather deteriorated,i reckon we were both VERY lucky not to lose our spiders, but lesson learned!
DEFINITELY wont post anything out or expect any deliveries till temperatures go up some.

p.s. did you get my p.m. dan?( maybe on arachnophiles)

for dan's post

Its utter madness that people have been posting inverts in this weather.

A more informative post about severe weather conditions and when is appropriate, certainly would be of benefit to inexperienced/new keepers and having it stickied would be great.

ironically, if things are done probably to a good standard, most animals would survive this weather. I'm not condoning it and telling people to do it of course as its just not clever.. but Its very possible to do it well and have good heat, whatever the temps outside.
