Default Camel Spider - Galeodes Granti (WANTED)

Hey there,

As the title says, I'm looking for a camel spider for me collection. No wc specimens though, the last wc camel spider I had was in awful condition, wouldn't feed & died after 6 weeks! Anyone who can point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated...

Pete

it will not be easy to find CB one, they are notoriously difficult to keep alive in captivity

tis true. Your best bet if you want a camel spider is to buy one in March-April, suppliers generally have them around then and it SHOULD mean they live at least until winter. Their seem to be seasonal as it is, grow fast, very active, but only live a year or two. Obviously the less you feed them, the longer they'll live.

Also if you get one, make sure you make a burrow for it already, and put in a lot of decor, they often run around the enclosure against the sides over and over until they die. They need something like a burrow or big bits of decor to stop them doing that.

Pete,

AFAIK, and all the CS's I have had, they have ALL been WC.

I would like some more of these, also.

I think I got my last lot from Lee, at TSS, and I have to say, they were in great nick, mate.

It has reached that month.

So.

Anyone know of anyone selling them?

From what I've heard there has been no successful CB programmes of these in the UK for some time. Someone @ Reptiles Plus in Bournemouth had some hatch a couple of years back but all died within 2-3 weeks. I think your best bet is to bite the bullet and get a WC specimen but buy it from a reputable supplier/shop like TSS. The advice of having plenty of decor and a ready made burrow is spot on. The last one I had was WC and lasted nearly 2 years and i had pretty busy setup for it with a ready made burrow and tunnel system and plenty of rocks and fauna.

Two years?

Quite impressive.

TSS didn't have anything, last time I looked on their site

Not 100% true anymore. One sp. cant remember which off the top of my head is now suspected to hibernate. People generally (for some reason) feed them silly amounts of food that shortens there lif span alot.

Heres the link to save me repeting it all.

solifugids actually lives longer than we think - Arachnoboards

Some people will say this is "wrong" because you shouldnt under feed an animal to make it live longer but feeding them silly amounts of food and making them die young is, in my opinion, is wrong.

I had a CBB a while ago and it lastest about a year and was no where near full grown when it passed. It had shed 3-4 times while i had it and had made the best tunnel system of any borrowing animal i've owned. Talk about a pet hole!
Unfortunatly it borrow collapsed while it was shedding and it died in its old skin.
