Cool crested gecko care sheet

took me bout 4 hours to make this so enjoy

Crested gecko care sheet

The crested gecko was thought to be extinct before 1994 when it was rediscovered.
A lot of people will say that the crested gecko is the perfect pet gecko, this is because it is such a rewarding animal but is relatively low maintenance.

Feeding

Feeding the crested gecko is very easy in the U.K, this is because we have a wide range of foods that they thrive on. The live foods include: crickets, locusts, waxworms, dubia roches, ect.
The most popular food for crested geckos is the sandfire range crested gecko diet, this power is mixed with water to create the full crested gecko diet, it contains all the crested needs to thrive.
There is also a product called respashy’s two part diet, this comes in an array of flavours.
Baby crested geckos can be reluctant to feed on crested gecko diet, they just need time to adjust normally.
Note: some crested geckos will grow quicker when given live foods.

Housing

The crested gecko is a very easy gecko to house; this is because the crested gecko is a arboreal gecko. A adult crested gecko can live in a 45cm cubed exo-terra terrarium, these measurements are also good for using vivariums.
Vivariums are thought to be better to house crested geckos because they retain the humidity a lot better.
In your vivarium you will need a variety of things for the crested gecko to hide any in, e.g. fake/live plants (see bottom to see what plants to use).

Heating

Heating the crested gecko is again, very simple, in most houses in the U.K you do not need extra heating. But if you have a cold house then it is advisable to use a heat mat on the side of the enclosure connected to a stat.
Cresteds need roughly mid 70’s during the day and can go down to the early 60’s during the night, but if they do make sure they can heat back up during the day.

Sexing

To sex a crested gecko it needs to be at least 6 months old (unless there is a definite bulge).
Hemi penile bulges will develop at the base of the tail. Experienced keepers may be able to manually invert the hemi penis of the males.

General information

Crested geckos are very hardy animals in captivity. They are also very resistant to disease.
When babies shed it is a very crucial point in the crested geckos growth. Crested eat their shed straight after it has been taken off their bodies.

Morphs

Crested geckos are very colourful by nature, however as they have not been in captivity for all that long their morphs are difficult to predict.

may i add to it?..
CGD will make them grow a HELL of alot slower
i would also say no lower than 65 personally..
and also no hotter than 80.
i would also say that cresties are GREAT hiders of illnesses..
they can go down hill very very easliy 'They are also very resistant to disease' so i would kinda disagree with this
also i would say that i keep all mine in wooden vivs, and mine seem to hold humidity much better and heat.

also me personally... for subsrate i use paper towel.. why? beaus ei have had worms in my collection, this helps. i also had a problem with geckos EATING the floor, wether it be moss bark or eco earth.. i have had a female poo eco earth out weeks after its been in her tank!! i would personally never use loose substrate. also this way i can allso check for poo wee etc

There is no way that I would house an adult crested gecko permanently in a 45cm exoterra.

I am really not meaning to be unpleasant or have a go at you, but the above care guide is very basic, containing very little information on their care. If that took you four hours then I would leave it to someone else to produce a more comprehensive guide.
I would recommend Art geckos guide or visiting repashy.com
Heres a link to my old one which also requires updating - when I have time as there are a couple of things I would like to alter slightly now.

Everyone isn't, but if you want to produce a good care guide you have to be open to constructive critiscism. Ive altered mine many times following other peoples suggestions/comments and it is improved as a result of those peoples efforts.

OKAY, LETS START WITH DIET -
You do not mention size of livefoods to be fed which is very important, nor the amount to feed, also important - imagine someone tipping in a full box of crickets and how stressed the crestie would be. Also it would be good to include something about gutloading the livefood so it is nutritious.
You have not mentioned fruit in this section - faecal studies on cresties in the wild have shown fruit makes up around 95% of their diet.
There is no mention of calcium or multivitamins, or any connection with UV lighting and how this can be important in conjunction with diet.
No mention of drinking.

I am not going to go into everything as I may aswell write out a new care guide, so just look at Art geckos or one off the repashy website for a better idea. If people think that they know everything they need to know by reading your care guide then they are likely to end up with ill geckos.

Again, I want to stress that I am not having a go at you personally. I have mentioned it because the main reason reptiles get sick is that people do not look into their care properly and often just trust the first care guide they read thinking it contains all they need to know. When you have worked in a reptile shop and seen hundreds of sick reptiles brought in due to poor advice it gets pretty infuriating. I always try my best to encourage better education, to prevent these issues from occuring.
