im after the same aswell mate, just have to pick peoples brains from their experience, they dont seem to be a very hard rep to keep, like it hot and dry although ive run into quite alot of conflicting info about their diet, some say strictly plants and vegetation others say that once in a wile they will take crickets etc. thats the only grey area ive found, any questions mate pm me and we can cross reference and try to come up with a answer

Default re desert iggy

Hi
I used to have a desert iggy.
They easy to keep. The bigger and longer the viv, the better, as they can move very fast.
As for veggies, you have to do it by trial and error, some iggys like fruit ect, where as mine didnt. You can feed them crickets, but its not really advisable as they are veggies eaters. If you imagine them in the wild, where veggies/fruits ect might be sparse, they will eat insects ect, just to survive.
When i had mine, and we did have some HOT weather, he was put into a flexi and stayed out in the sun and heat, i put a rock in there as well so he could bask. I also pulled out my awning, so if it got to hot for him, he had a shady spot to cool down. But they do love their vivs hot. They dont need water as they get their fluids from the fruit and salads. You just have to feed him/her by trial and error and you will soon see what he /she likes and dont like.
HTH.
P.S.
They can be tamed down, but desert iggys can be easliy spooked and they will puff up to make themselves look bigger.
Best of luck.

They are apparently one of the few creatures to feed on the creosote bush, which makes them difficult to keep out of their home range.....

Also, they are found in the mojave desert, a low hot desert, where temps in the shade regularly reach 114 degrees F in the summer and rarely are below freezing in the winter. Therefore, this species, like its tropical cousins, does not hibernate. They are not found, for instance, in the much higher Chihuahuan desert to the east, which also gets very warm in the summer but is much colder in the winter, regularly with a night-time low below freezing for several months. As adults, i do not believe they eat a lot of insects....

OP - there care are similar to chuckwalla's... have google for care sheets, there are a few about (ive found a few when looking for info on a setup).

i have a M/F pair - stunning lizards and such characters, mine are both super tame, the female is out of this world, ive not met a lizard like her.

mine get fed on plenty of greens with occasional fruits.

they can survive fine without the creaosote bush.... they only eat the flowers of it anyway, they look alot like dandilions. (which desert igs love!)

although people say they are viggies the will in the wild eat live food quite happily,

in scientific studies they have also found that they will eat bugs/worm, there own poo

mine LOVE livefoodd, and for supposed 'veggies' they are epic hunters!
