I am having to make a heart breaking decision to rehome my much loved Iguana. Whether or not I will be able to go through with it, depends on the home you can provide him, the experience that you have with Iguanas, and if my heart will allow me to do this.
His name is Marley, and we have had him over 4 years. I originally got him as a rescue animal when I worked in a Reptile shop.. and a drug dealer came in wanting to sell him to us (we didnt even think he would make it). I estimate his age to be over 9 years. When I took him on, he was in such a terrible condition, with burns and scars all over his body. He had no frills/spines left, with the exception of one or two. He had to go to the Vets right away, and was diagnosed with MBD, and was treated for a Mouth abscess. Hundreds of pounds later, and years down the line... he seemed ''better'', and loved life- getting out and about, sitting basking on his favourite log, having a swim in the bath, and eating me out of house and home! He then, for no reason, went down hill, and I had to force feed him every day for weeks.. and get fluids in to him- which was a bit of a challenge wrestling with a 4-5ft iguana, determined to ''give up''. He lost a lot of weight, and the Vets wanted to x-ray him and do all sorts of tests on him, but I didn't want to put him through it, as it was thought he wouldnt even get through the anaesthetics. I continued on as I was doing, and to my amazement, eventually, he began to regain his strength, and seemed to regain a spark for life. He is once again a happy chap- a bit grumpy if he gets a little cool (his own doing- when he opens his viv and goes and sits near the window!!). I have never had any problems with aggression from him.. as I say, apart from if he gets a little cool (understandable really). He is currently living in a converted double wardrobe, but I look at him, and I just dont feel he gets enough attention, and happiness how he is. Don't get me wrong, he wants for nothing- gets a diet better than mine!.. has time out his viv when he wants, and gets pampered.. but I feel that he has been through so much, that he perhaps should go to a home whereby he will be given 101% of your attention. I have many animals, and this is the first animal I have ever had to rehome. I stand by the thought of taking on an animal for its whole life, despite anything.. so I am heart broken to be writing this, but I really do just have Marleys best interest at heart. I love him to bits, and as I say, am unsure I can even go through with rehoming him, as we have been through so much together..but if reading this, you think you may be able to offer him a 5* home... I would love to hear from you. Please dont reply to my thread if you are not genuinely interested in rehoming this wonderful animal. Many thanks for taking the time to read my ad. I am based in Edinburgh. |

My seraphine has a fb page. search for seraphine patel. IT SHOWS SUCH POOR ATTITUDE and IRRESPONSIBILITY TAKING ON THESE LIZARDS WITHOUT RESEARCHING (UNLESS RESCUING) AND EXPECT PEOPLE TO GIVE YOU ANSWERS TO THE PRE-REQUISITES YOU CAN CLEARLY FIND OUT BY READING THE SAME MATERIAL WE HAVE ALL HAD TO READ FIRST. |
