This little Gecko hatched with an under developed right eye . As can be seen in the photographs its right eye is much smaller than the left eye. At the time of hatching this deformaty was not as obvious. Despite the problem with its eye the little hatchling is able to hunt effectively and eats size 3 black crickets without any problem. I am uncertain as to whether the right eye is blind or not. I do not think this hatchling is experiencing any discomfort or distress.
![]() ![]() ![]() We are offering this hatchling free of charge to anyone that is prepared to give it a good home. At the moment it is unsexed though it was incubated for male . We would ask for an assurance off anyone giving this leo a home that it would not be used in any breeding project. I do not think the eye defect is genetic, it is more likely to be an incubation defect.( None of its related hatchlings have shown any form of defect.) However I would be concerned that the stress of breeding and if female the strain from carrying eggs may be of detriment. This little hatchling is already quite tame and runs up your arm as soon as you put your hand in its tub. I think given the right home it will as a 'special gecko' make a good 'pet' . The gecko is currently around 10 gms in weight and we will not release it until it is a minimum of 15gms. I would prefer that the hatchling was collected or we may possibly be able to deliver if not too far from Blackpool. If you would like to offer this lovely leo a home please get in touch.

Just want to say congrats to mal, I know many breeders who would have culled that one as soon as they saw his problems, its a sign of a very good breeder that puts the animal's welfare first not their breeding plans.
On that note I'd be happy to put a link to your site on mine if you wish? And that I can assure anyone looking to home this little guy that most with eye problems from birth are not affected in any way, and this guy should with the right loving owner, thrive to be a happy healthy leo! Both these girls were blid from birth, and one has a shrunken eye like your little man! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ueCvKtP6xg |

Thanks for the replys and pms everyone. Im pleased to say that the little chap has a great home to go to. A big thanks to Shep.
GothGirl, thanks very much for the words in your post. We really do care about our leos, there welfare is the most important aspect of our setup. I could never give upon an animal that had a realistic chance of having a comfortable life. Leos like this little chap deserve the chance and Im confident he will do as well as most 100% leos. The only time we would have a gecko pts is if we felt it was suffering or likely to live a life of prolonged stress and suffering if kept alive. I think if we choose to breed our reps we have a responsabilty of care and compassion towards hatchlings such as this one. Sometimes that responsabilty means making the tough decisions (of course with a vets input) but in this case it was easy, the little chap deserves every chance to live a happy life. We would love it if you put a link to ours on your website. It means a lot to us. Many thanks.
