Is that a different species or a morph? I am right in thinking that there are different species aren't I? They all look amazing anyway! I really like them, they're like a cross between a beardie and a Uro that just eats veg. How much are they generally. I saw a young pair for sale in a shop that was 180 i think. hese are definately on my wish list!

As far as i know There are five chuckwalla species, including the common chuckwalla, Sauromalus obesus; this species, in turn, has four different subspecies, including the western chuckwalla. they are part of the iguana family . ive paid anything from £120 up to £180 for one.( my nasty piebald one ) i think the general price from a shop is about £130 round here but females are always more and really hard to obtain..also prob 90% of them on sale are wc ones . they do make great pets though an worth every penny theyve cost me ![]()

You've got some great pets there, wish I had money and space for some of the animals you have!

Very nice chucks
they are such underrated lizards!I believe that all former subspecies of S.obesus are now classed under the one name Sauromalus ater. The individual species are still recognised though (I think theyre all insular except S.ater which covers pretty much the whole of the Mainland desert areas). Im not sure that your larger male is a piebald chuck (S.varius) - as well as being endangered they are the largest of the chuckwallas and enormous in size! Cant recall the exact comparison off the top of my head, but its something like more than 4-5 times the weight of a normal S.ater. Heres a pic of one: These are my favorite chucks and I love a pair one day - but as they are actually endangered I think its probably just a dream lol. That being said I know a few people in the US with pairs, so fingers crossed..! Would love a pair of S.hispidus as well, they will probably be a bit easier to find. Theyre not as nicely coloured though.
