Hey all been a while since i lasted posted, didn't realise it was this long tho haha.

just thought id do the latest update on my pair of chinese crocodile lizards 'HIDE AND SEEK'

Well starting with 'HIDE' havnt seen much of her of late as she spends most of her time in her favourite place the top of the upright log, 9 times out of 10 just poking her head out slightly being nosey.
they were due for a clean out yesterday anyway so that was the perfect opportunity to have an inspection of her see hows shes doing, and eventually during the cleaning out, she did venture out the log which enabled me to get hold of her and give her a once over, as i tend to try and leave them to there own devices as much as possible.
When i did have hold of her all i can say is she is bulging big time around the belly area, compared to the last picture i put up on here a couple of months back she has like nearly doubled in size around the belly which is lovely and firm.
pregnant well im still not going to say yes as she does like her food, earthworms crickets etc and certainly a little piggy when she wants to be, but whether she is or she isnt sure i will find out in a couple of months or so time.
shes alot bigger than 'SEEK' the male anyway length wise aswell, which i was a little shocked about and certainly got plenty of meat in her tail.

anyway on to 'SEEK' the male see him most days hes normally out and about wandering around the viv, or in the water pool, or perched on the braches over hanging it.
i have been keeping my eye on him as from what i said regards 'HIDES' size genrally he is not even as long as her when techniccly he should just as big if not bigger.
i think he has become lazy regards eating by himself where as 'HIDE' she hunts no problem when shes hungry and certainly has an appetite.
hes never really eaten alot compared to her, but when you have 1 in each hand it is very clear to see the difference in weight and size.
so for now ive resulted bk in hand feeding him to start getting some weight on him and to make him grow bigger and catch up with 'HIDE'
thats how we started off with him when we 1st obtained them he had to be hand fed, but he then seemed to get his feet and learnt where the dish was and fed himself, not vast amounts but enough every other day, but lately havnt seen him do that and seems to gone off mealworms.
so hand fed him last night he had quite abit so im pleased 1 earth worm and about 10 wax worms which are good for building up a lizards weight.
so will be monitering him over the coming days and weeks and hand feeding for the time being, which hopefully will be a tempoary thing. luckily he is easy to hand feed being the boss of course its easy to get him to open his mouth, just stroke the back of his head and then he goes into defensive mode and mouth wide open ready to bite, and just pop the food in mouth. where as luckily 'HIDE' hunts for herself and is the placid 1 out of 2 and certainly wont open her mouth for you even using all the tricks, she just laps up attetion and loves being stroked.

Have got plenty of new pictures but can't get them up, for what ever reason photbucket not letting me copy n paste was a few months back but its gone weird whether the settings have been ajusted accidently or something or some other fault here i dunno.

and thanks to the private messages ive recieved in the last week or so, regards people after some of the wonderful lizards, like the thread sais the only place is coast to coast at mo with the large male far as i know.

and breeding wise she may well be carrying young, only time will tell in next few months or so, but if she is then apparently i will be the 1st in the country to succeed as there not known to breed very easily in captivity apart from other places like america and a couple of others in europe where there is a successful breeder but they have a different climate compared to here and live outside most of the year around in a specially constructed area/outside viv.
i know the owner of coast to coast left me a message a while bk saying that ive got further than they have so far in trying to breed them as they do own a pair that are upstairs above the shop, and there trying to get a breeding programme up and going on them, so for now watch this space i may succeed i may not.

thanks for reading.

dave.

ps) questions, comments, feedback, private messages welcome.

thanks dan, yeah they are lovely lizards, glad i got them wouldn't be without them, just hope i can successfully get them to breed would make my day, she may well be pregnant at moment but time will tell the next few months coming will reveal all, personally i don't think its just the fact she greedy and fat as if it were, but until then im not going to get to excited and be convinced she pregnant, but the signs are looking promising for now anyway, will just watch her and see how much more she expands but if she is i would of thought rough estimate she about 6months gone as thats how long ago roughly she started putting on weight around the belly, slow and gradule best way to put it, but for those who don't know, in some ways there like humans and are pregnant for 9months, and give birth to 2-12 live babies more likely the lower end of scale.

thanks for comments keep them coming.
