They're about fully grown now (about 15cm/6") - matilda is slightly bigger than george. As becky said, we think she might be gravid, but not too sure as they don't like to be handled all that much. She has a laying box tho, so it'll be fine if she is.

I've got leos available!
They (aussie velvets) are kept in a 2'x18"x18" and they look lost in there! They are very active at night (coz they're nocturnal!) and are great to watch when the light goes out and the food goes in! We're hoping on some babies soon and then we might see about getting another female.

Already managed to get 4 leo's from a friend last year
![]() It was a bit of a hike to collect them though. If you are successful with breeding will you be planning to sell any of the babies in the future? I would be very interested, as I have a couple of 2 foot vivs sitting empty and sad at the mo with nothing to fill them.. Would I be right to assume set-up is similar to leo's, as they are nocturnal? |

Most probably - depending on how many babies I end up with and how much space we have at the time to grow them on. Ideally I'd like another female so might keep a few to see what sex they turn out to be. They're not usually sexable until they're at least 6 months, and sex isn't incubation temperature dependent so it'll be pot luck. Set-up wise, they like quite a humid environment and lots of things to climb on as they're arboreal. I keep them on a mix of cypress bed, cocoa fibre, moss and wood chippings (still trying to find the perfect balance!) with a couple of hides and lots of horizontal cork bark. They love running along the branches and leaping off things when they're hunting, occasionally leaping headfirst into the glass doors!!! To be honest, they don't use one of the hides as they seem to prefer being off the ground. Being nocturnal, there's no need for UV but a low level is possibly beneficial, and good for any plants growing in the viv. I think they're ablsolutely fantastic little geckos - not especially handleable at the moment (I'm working on it with these two) and quite shy, but brilliant to watch. I'll definitely let you know if I have any joy with breeding and am selling babies. |

They sound fantastic! I would be most grateful if you would keep me in mind when the time comes.
What kind of temps and humnidity levels are you keeping them at? Are we talking p m murinus type humidity and temps or slightly lower? Sorry for all the questions, I sound like the Spanish inquisition ![]() |
