Default Oedura monilis update

Somebody suggested I add a photo every week of my Aussie velvet gecko that hatched last week. I've just given the little fella a clean out, so thought I'd have the camera handy in case of any cute poses. He was quite happy to sit on my hand (in fact I couldn't get him off at one point) so I ended up taking a few more than one photo.....

I took this one a few days ago because it was really funny watching him try to hide in a ridge in the cork bark. It was quite obviously too small for him to fit right into, but he tried hard!

Now at nine days old, he has worked out that his sticky feet can climb the sides of the tub he's in. Could make things a little bit trickier when it comes to feedings and future cleaning outs.

I was quite surprised at how comfortable he seemed to be sitting on me, so I'm going to try and handle him every week as he grows up in the hope that he will become more confident and will maybe even enjoy a "cuddle" when he's adult. Although I love my adults to bits, they're not very handleable (Daddy generally runs a mile when I open the door to put food in), and it'd be nice to have a lizard that is more trusting of me! We'll see what happens though.

he's looking gorgeous

at him realising he can climb the walls
if u think u've got it bad one of our baby day geckos has realised it can climb upside down on the lid of the faunarium (the other hatchling ironically the 1st to hatch seems less slightly less brave & adventurous)

Default 16 days old...

Here's the little fella again. He now has a name, as I can't see myself ever having the heart to sell my first ever hatchling, especially now I'm gaining confidence handling him. (Still over the bath though in case he makes a leap of faith!)

Meet 16 day old Frobscottle:

Oh, and for anyone wondering, Frobscottle is the fizzy drink they have in the BFG. My adults are all named after Roald Dahl characters, but I thought I'd go for something a bit more unusual this time!

The little man has shed again this week and he seems to be getting a bit bigger. He also had his first leap off my hand and into the bath (it was empty!), although he didn't seem to object to being picked up again. I've been giving him some pureed fruit to wash the crickets down, but he doesn't seem to have tried it. Oh well, all the more for me!

Yes and no. The adults are kind of speckly browny orange with splodges on them, so he won't stay the dark purple/brown colour forever. I'm not sure how much of his colour change is down to temperature and mood changes though. I took the last photo after he'd been in a cool bathroom for a while cos I was cleaning him out. I don't think he's this pale all the time.

The little fella is now seven weeks old. I caught him eating dinner the other day and managed to get a photo:
