Uromastyx geyri (yellow) and their setup!
Just thought I'd introduce these two to you all - they're yellow-phase Uromastyx geyri (Saharan Dab Tails).
They're new and are still settling in so there aren't many photos of them - when the male's having a good day he's quite friendly so I'll try to get some better photos of him showing his proper colours in the next couple of days; you can get an idea from his head though! I had to take the photos of them through the glass so they're not the best - hopefully they'll tame down once they've got used to being here!
Male:
Female:
Both:
And their new viv - I'm using a mixture of sand and large slate chippings (larger than their throats!) as substrate. I wanted to mimic the sandy, rocky areas that they'd naturally inhabit - because they don't have livefood (apart from a mealworm each at a weekend), I've not got to worry about crickets etc hiding, so I could make the viv a bit more complex than I would for something like a beardie. For shelter they have an L-shaped "cave" with two entrances that goes under their MVB basking light (they also have an Arcadia 12% and a reflector, to maximise the UV they get). They both sleep in the cave, but generally come out to bask once the light's been on for an hour or so.
Hot end ("short" part of the cave):
Cold end:
Middle ("long" part of the cave):
