i would leave it as it is so he has a good temp range to choose from, in the wild you get shaded cool areas and if he is to cool he will move to the warm end. if not you can use another heating source set up on a seperate stat to reg the cool end.
hope i have helped

thats the gradient i used when i had my beardie, it was a 48x15x15 tank with a 100w bulb on a stat, set to shine on a big lump of slate that stuck up out of the sand the probe from the stat was on a branch right next to the slate. i set the stat so that the temp on the slate was 105f and that resulted in a cool end of 75f, he used the whole tank, yours will warm up at the hot end then run round, eat ect then if he cools down he'll know to go back to the hot end to warm back up. i would say that if you're getting a tiny baby then a 4 foot tank is too big, it will be hard for the baby to find its food and water

the tank is fine in size at least that way he can stay there for years, also they will not forget were there food is when fed greens and insects move!!

Either leave it (as long as it has a hot end, it should be fine), or increase the wattage of your bulb.

Make sure the probe from the stat is in the cool end. The stat is there as a safety feature to stop the cool end from getting too hot. It's not there to control the basking temperature. Control of the basking spot is achieved by changing the distance between the basking light and the basking spot, after you have got the cool end sorted and holding steady.

Its prolly fair to assume there is no stat being used?
for now it seems your ok.. once that cool end starts getting close to the 85 mark you may want to pick one up.
