Default What I dont get is...

how come people say to put some reps and amphibians into freezers to kill them if need be, yet in much colder conditions in the wild they can come out being frozen, sometimes years later, and just crawl/hop/slither around like nothings changed? frogs can do it, some snakes can too (it was on TV the other day)

why would you want to kill a rep by freezing it if ever there was a need for a dying rep it should be taken to a vet to humanely euthanized.I dont understand why some attemp to kill in this way. jusy pay the vet bills or dont keep reps if you cannot afford to look after them (dont meen you blackrose)

Can't agree more. It cost £15 at the vets to have an animal humanly euthanised. Why make a beloved pet die slowly in a freezer.

Wow my vet want up to £100 to euthanise a reptile properly.

As for freezing, about 10-20 years ago it was seen as the best and acceptable way to euthanise reptiles in pain. After more research it is suggested to be one of the most cruel and painfull ways for them to die, with crystals forming in the reptiles blood and eyes long before death putting them in unbelieveable amounts of pain.

For my iguana when he was on his last legs love him. Out of hours they wanted £78 just for the call out (this was 5mins after closing time) plus the £92+VAT.

Lots of people used to freeze the reps, to kill them. Its a horrible way for them to die, the ice crystals which form inside their bodies causes them pain, and as reptiles are cold blooded it can take a long time for them to die. If a reptile needs putting to sleep please TAKE IT TO A VET.
