Both beardies and plated lizards are quite aggressive and territorial lizards I'm afraid. Both will attack and eat smaller lizard prey in the wild, and beardies will be aggressively territorial to other males even if not of the exact same species.
I would place a good sum of money on the beardie and the plated gaining dominance in their territories through violence within the first 3 months, and all animals being very stressed.

personally i wouldnt mix species, just doesnt seem right. different species may come from a similar environment but they would not mix in the wild, so keeping them in a viv together they may get on sometimes but it isnt natural. all my reptiles are too precious to me to risk any harm coming to them.
that being said its a good question to anyone wondering!!

I personally wouldn't - as Athravan said, beardies in particular can be extremely territorial, even the most laid back ones. It's not worth the risk. In a 4' viv, there is not "enough room" - if a fight does break out, the Red Heads would want to run a long way from the beardie. In a 4' viv the furthest they could run would be 4', and over that kind of distance a beardie would probably give chase and start attacking them again.
In a room-sized enclosure, after you'd researched any potential zoonotic diseases and other possible problems, it may be more feasible (I still certainly wouldn't recommend it though). Would you like to share a phone box with a chimp? |

It's a similar problem (or it flippin' seems like it!!) that's causing me to have to consider tightening things up here as I might have to be the one to move....
!!!! I've tried to sell on some of my smaller lizards but no takers so have been thinking of other ways to reduce bills and space - this seemed like a good idea but maybe not. I know some people do mix species with no problem so thought I should at least ask before making my mind up either way ..... will have to start thinking again I guess. Thanks everyone for the advice and suggestions ![]() |

I am gonna get shouted at now lol BUT Plateds and Beardies DO get along fine in the same enclsoures. I hvae seen this in more than one place. If you wanted to house them I would say only house females together and hawk them!
