Default Eating Habits

It's me again!

Spyro has started to eat a bit more normally now. being fed two times a day and eats about 3/4 crix and 2/3 meal worms.

however he's not touching his greens. we've tried a few things but he's not interested.

I've been dripping water on his nose and letting him lick it off but this often doesn't work.

Any ideas?

also, roughly when should he start to shed, he's 7 weeks old now and doesn't seem to be showing any signs.

from what I know about beardies is that the older they get the more greens he will eat i think the ratio is 80% live food and 20% greens when younger and going up to 70% green and 30% live as they age. Just keep putting fresh in everyday and he will eventually try it.
Im no beardie expert and im sure someone will correct me if im wrong, but hope this helps

HIya what size are the crickets? I would ease off the mealworms if I were you .....he/she will not shed until on a growth spurt and this happens with the amount of food taken...They really dont need much water so I wouldnt worry..

firstly your
beardie
is 7 weeks old so he
hasnt
got a got a clue what it is so you have to keep enticing he with it.
i have a couple of ideas that will help you as i have raised many many baby
beardies
and other lizards.

1st. try cress take it out of the plastic container and put it in the cage, obviously keep the cress in the soil. and try to move pieces of the cress so it looks like it alive and he should take the cress.

2nd. use all different type of veggies, all different colours so it looks interesting to him,
inculding
such veg as spring greens ( or other types of dark green cabbage) apples, carrots, cress, broccoli, cucumber, grapes, peas ( use frozen peas, but defrost them first, as tin peas has salt/sugar which is not good for them) runner beans, sweetcorn ( again frozen or fresh) fruit is great any type of fruit they love mine love apples, grapes, bananas, strawberries etc. try most veggies as they will eat almost anything.

3rd. as hes still a baby he needs his veg as it has lots of vitamins, iron that they need all through there life. plus they get a little hydrated too through eating it.
so i would suggest cutting down his live food a little, nothing to drastic you
dont
want to starve him but just enough as even though these pets are in cages they still need to hunt for there food. so if you cut down his live food he will get hungry and start to find more food to eat, then he will go up to his food dish and start to lick it and then eat it.
the trouble with
beardies
is they get spoilt on live food and then show no interest in veg, i only feed my lizards live food once a day then put veggies in the afternoon and they can eat all through the day that way.
do not cut out live food as they need both in moderation both live food and veggies are very
inportant
in their diet.
make sure you cut up the veg in very small pieces so its easier to pick up and eat, plus it wont get trapped in his throat, then as he gets older you then can make it a little more
corser
.

ok
with the shedding hes only 7 weeks and
isnt
ready to shred through many reason he could be stressed or just
isnt
getting enough vitamins he needs. i
wouldnt
worry about him shedding just yet, he will in his own time.
ive
known
beardies
to go several months without shedding.
you can help him in many ways to try and make him go into a shed like giving him a bath. in tepid water, its very good for them keeps their skin healthy and hydrated. and it gives them a helping hand to shed as sometimes they do struggle.
i bath my lizards once a week, i put them in the
bathroon
basin where they have a swim and a splash splash, but you do find that 9/10 they will poop in the bath as
relax's
them too much but this is totally normal.

i hope after reading my essay to you (
lol
) that it helps you, i have got many adults ( that have never seen veg before) to eat it. so please do not give up, i have no doubt that your baby
beardie
will eventually eat his veg and love it.

let me know how you get on with it

you've only just got him eating at all, and you've only had him a week - slow down

he will take the veg in his own time, just keep enticing him with it - the cress idea sounds good.
I always feed Trevor his veg before I give him his crickets in the morning so he's hungry and he usually takes a nibble but no more. He does go in his salad bowl though as I find leaves scattered and I once caught him snaffling a bit of carrot on the sly. He particularly likes dandelion flowers.

Trevor didn't shed till he was 10 weeks old, I'd had him 3 or 4 weeks
