Default Leopard gecko rubs

We're just on the verge of upgrading Kali and Devi out of the faunarium.

Do you all think leo's can be as happy in a rub as in a viv long term?

We're agonizing over it as obviously rubs will take up much less space but we want whats best for them.

in all honesty, its only dow to your choice, they wont care as long as its not 100% see through and they can get the right temps. some people like vivs, some like rubs, each have good and bad points, its up to you.

I guess it depends how the rubs are furnished, and possibly the leos themselves.

The main difference I can see is in a viv the sides are solid with glass that they can see out of at the front, RUBS are kind of see through all around.

Only other difference is they open from the top.

If the RUB is the same size as the viv, and is furnished in the same way the viv would have been, then there shouldn't really be any difference for the leos, they should be just as happy either way

Please correct me if i'm missing something obvious that would contradict this.

I keep all mine in faunariums. Is there a reason you're wanting to change?

We used to keep our first leos in vivs but as we got more, we moved them into RUBs. We have found that they thrive in them, and they are an awful lot easier to clean thoroughly!

We have 2 females sharing and wanted to upgrade them but a faunarium won't be big enough once they're adults!!

I think we'll go the rub route, they come out and are handled regularly, just felt a little like i was keeping my babies in a plastic box

What do you guys use to make ventilation holes?

I keep some of my leos in wooden vivs and about 20 of them in 50litre RUBS. The ones in the RUBs are all healthy, eating well and doing all the good things leos do. I wouldnt say they are any healthier than my leos in wooden vivs but they are certainly not less healthy than them. It is possible to furnish a RUB with the same care and attention that would be applied to furnishing a wooden viv. (Plants, rocks etc) The only problem is that you have to remove the lid and look down into the tub to view it. I think leos in RUBs get adequate light to provide a day / night cycle. I also think that the restricted view into the tub is advantageous to the leo as it minimises disturbance and lets them sleep feeling more secure. The advantage of a wooden viv is that we can make it more aesthetically pleasing and obviously see the resident more easily. End of the day, its individual choice. A leo will be happy in either a tub or a viv as long as the basic care requirements are met.
