following on from the convo me, yourself and t-bo had in the chatroom, it may pay you to get a wooden viv as the glass ones tend to lose heat more easily.
see what happens with the dimmer and thermometers etc, you may get the temps you need, but keeping them stable could be a pain in the arse.

if worst comes to worst, get yourself a wooden, glass fronted viv and you'll be laughing mate.

you could put a sheet of polystyrene under the viv if its glass, it helps stop the heat from the mat being absorbed into the surface the tank is standing on, err you could also cover the back and sides if theyre not vented in like aquarium backin film, just to provide a little more insulation.
i got a sheet of polystyrene from BnQ dead cheap.
hope that helps a lil.

You could also stick a heat mat on the back of the viv one side and but bacofoil over the top this stops the heat getting out as ive done it myself on one of my vivs

We use white bulbs for the beards where i work and they tend to give off more heat than the red ones but we use all glass vivs at work and i use em at home and keepin the temprature right isnt a problem
Is your house cold because that could be cooling the viv
Hope this helps

This whole light and heat issue is still totally confusing me and diagrams aren't helping much, but I'm getting there slowly, I think.

Another quick question. I have to silicon the inside of my viv, can I use ordinarey clear silicon or do I need to get the ones designed for Vis aquariums etc. This will probably turn out to be obvious because of poisoning or something.

God I wish you guys all lived closer.
