Default Quick pet shop question

The pet store near me (its a privately run store) has its leos (babies) on calci sand (with a spot light for heat). they feed them mealworms in a dish, and I was wondering if they would be okay to buy from? Does impaction usually occur do to missing prey?

mealies should be in a bowl so shouldn't get sand if they miss them

no calcium dish, but the "handler" guy (he named all of the reptiles and created his own mix for the cresties XD) said they sprinkle calcium on the mealworms. I'm just kind of paranoid, seeing as I don't want my first leo to be impacted and die. Leos don't go around licking their viv do they? I really can't afford buying one online considering shipping is usually high for animals.

dusting mealies is a start but there should be a dish of calcium in their viv for them to eat when they need it, this stops them eating the sand. lizards use their tounge to explore the suroundings my beardie lick everything as does my leo (my uro is just to lazy to do it)

With sand there is always the chance of impaction, I've heard more so with calci-sand. So there will always be a risk with buying leo's that've been kept on sand.

Incidentally I keep my adult leos on fine grade sand, which they seem absolutely fine with, and I know the risk I am taking with this.

to be honest you are better getting them from a breeder online, they will be able to give you full details from birth to sale. got mine from marksleopardgeckos.co.uk
