Should be ok being above the snake, you just might have to lower your stat tho depending on the heat coming from underneath.

Yes they can catch mites, should be avoided with scrupulous cleaning - if you had something in there before that had mites, ensure its been treated well.

3x2 is plenty of room for 2, or 3!

Heat mat is the prefered option, you'll need one to cover a third of the viv - substrate is entirely your choice, but if they are young wouldn't recommend a loose substrate, most use kitchen roll, lino or tiles and then look at changing it as they get older, or keep it the same. I'd get a mat stat for your heatmat, and also a digital thermometer, because as the heat rises from your snake below, you might have to make lot of adjustments until you get it right.

I have lino down in my leo vivs, but if you're putting a heat mat underneath you need it running for a day or so first with the doors open, to make sure there are no nasty fumes x

P.S makes cleaning REALLY easy and my leos love it

I'd be worried of any toxins in rubber tiles to be honest. You can just put the lino on top, no problem.

Get the heatmat in place and then get some lino measured to size of the viv, you won't need to fix it to the bottom as it'll stay in place.

Turn the heatmat on and leave it running for at least 48 hours with the doors open befpre you put anything in, and it must be on a stat.

oh and don't use exo-terra heatmats
