It is known that tegus can suffer impaction / digestion issues from rat fur, as it is far coarser than mice,(young rats tho as adults are supposed to be ok) My Red teg was fed a diet of rats, and I nearly fainted when they told me, he is eating & emptying okay know tho, It has taken me over two months to remove the retained shed form him at least( two - three layers), I could have made a pair of shoes it was that thick, but he is looking awesome now, and is a blood red and not a rusty orange, I will put some piccies on of a before and after so you can see the colour difference in him.

I was wondering if you guys could help me i saw some monitors at my local reptile shop labeled only as Dwarf monitors it did have ther scientific name but can't remember it i think it was varanus somethings the ywere burrowing and running alot i was just wondering if you guys might know what they were? thank you.

Did they look like the ones in the pics above your question if so there Ackies (varanus Acanthurus) ridge tailed monitors

What's the deal with different names, one UK and one from the US?

I suppose the Latin name makes a clear and definitive identification but not very good for (me) the lay person.
