I'd imagine it'd be a fear of how he was treated with previous owner.

So this is my latest addition a '2foot' Water Monitor (more like a foot max) The previous owner didn't want him any more as he found out how big they get after he brought him. That and the fact he'd already been bitten twice! S/he is quite skittish and spent most of yesturday either hiding under a piece of bark or in the corner of his/her water bowl. I managed to get these pics of him/her;

And here is 'Oscar' our bosc monitor. He's a bit stroppy sometimes but I put that down to his age more than anything! He's very clever though. If we leave the lock off his viv, then he puts himself up against the glass and slides down... making the glass door open and out here comes! So now everytime we let him out we have to double check the doors are firmly shut before letting anyone else out!

And yes he is hugging his hide!

very nice and "typical" shy behaviour of a young water monitor , they tend to become less shy as they grow larger and indeed become quite "docile" when there nearing adulthood

Gonna leave him/her a few days to get used to their new surrendings and then start trying to handle him/her. Last thing we want is a HUGE monitor in a few years time who has never had human contact!

And here are my rescued boscs. Tim went to North London to pick up a viv stack and came home with these two. They had been housed together in a 4x1x1 with no UV and only 3 hours of heat a day. Apparantly he couldn't afford any longer. The viv had no substrate and was an inch thick in their own faeces were he never cleaned them. Hopefully they'll have a better life now;

Heres the male who has really gorgeous light colourings down his side.

and here is the female;

They are in a much bigger viv now and are enjoying their baths and human contact. Gonna get some different substrate for them though as I don't like keeping them on wood chips (impaction etc etc) Before we got them they were only fed on dog food so getting them round to eating live foods has been a bit of a chore, but they're getting there.

Both look quite stunning. I like the eyes of the male.

I love the eyes too! Will try and get a pic of his body when I get in from work as he really does have some amazing light markings. Considering the condition they were kept in there in pretty good shape!
