My female was a rescue and was in a right state and close to death.....so I made a few threats and chucked £60 in there hands ..rather than sit back and watch it die in horrid conditions..
When I got her home she did not even have the strength to work and was covered in mites..which I treated and wormed her and made her a 6 foot viv as she had lived all her life in a little 30" viv full of cr@p and insects..
Shes made a great recovery and is the tamest most friendly Bosc you could ever meet
(was she worth rescuing ? YOU BET SHE WAS)
Here she is now

good for you m8 its much better if every one thought like that instead of buying baby boscs that been snatched from the wild, there would be alot less out there that people didnt want and alot more in the wild

Default Hi to all

As it sez on the tin really, hi to all reptile, especially monitor lizard keepers.
I keep a couple of Varanus Prasinus (green tree monitor) 1M-1F. The male, Wagga - I've had several months now, I guess he's about 2-3 years old, told WC ,when I first got him he was very timid/nervous, he had been kept with another more dominant male and a female all about the same age. Since I've had him he's grown,(about 30" head to toe) carries a good weight, confident and is handleable. He gently takes food from my hand (no need for tweezers) and is just such fun to watch. Molly- the female I recently bought in Germany, I would say she's about 1-2 years old, WC. still quite nervous but OK with me in the viv if I keep things slow! she's easily spooked! I can touch her most times but as yet can't handle her not that it is a big deal. She has started to eat a lot better and at times in front of me but is far more active when no-ones around.
At present they have seperate vivs but my eventual aim is to put them together in a decent sized viv which I'll have soon, will stress I have no rush on doing this as for starters the female is too young, anyways I've spoke to my local reptile vet about parasites, cross infection etc. and he suggests either-he examines, weighs and injects treatment or he/I weigh then orally administer treatment in food. This I prefer , the male I could easily do either way but for the female I think taking her out and being handled by 2/3 people etc etc would be too stressfull and I personally feel this would set her back too much, she really was a bag of nerves when I first got her.
Anyone here have any experience with treating parasites in WC species and any comments welcomed.
Hope to become a fairly active user on this site and get to know some of you. I 'lurk' on www.varanus.nl which I think is a fantastic site for monitor keepers but I haven't posted there yet, anyone else use/post on that site?
Back soon with some pics and poss a vid.
Bumper..

I would agree with that - I have posted a few times but they definitely aren't as friendly as here - and definitely seem to keep themselves to themselves. If they think your question could even be a bit newbie-ish - they tend to ignore you except for the odd one or two. Used to be good in repticzone once and I got a lot of useful info when I first started out researching (4 years ago) - but sadly a lot of the people have moved on from there.
