Sorry to hear about all this Barry.

I've not been so active on the lizard section of late so I missed this.

Hope you're OK buddy.

Default My b&w tegu will not eat

I bought my b&w about 2 weeks ago and she does not seem to eat. I was told she is 6 months old (i say she, she could be a he) and i have tried her on pinkies which she has eaten 2 of, hoppers, crickets, fruit and veg and tegu food which is out of a can and she is not interested in the slightest. I have her on repti-bark which she burys herself in and never seems to come out. Is this normal behavior for a young tegu?

Have you checked your temps (Hot spot, warm end and cool end).

Does the Tegu appear to be healthy?

Even if it's still relatively young (and an Argentine Tegu) it may have savvy to have gone into a state of semi hibernation as these are prone to do this, where they will dig themselves in a basically sleep the day through. Obviously during this time food will be of little concern to the creature although they will still get up for a nibble from time to time.

yeah the temps are fine, she has moved all the bark to the cool end and hides in it there, how long do they normally hibernate for? should i just leave her alone until she is ready to come out? she looks pretty healthy can not see anything obvious. I went to see 3 others when i bought her and chose her because she was quite a lot calmer than the others. did i make the right decision? She is gorgeous. i will up load a pic of her in a min that was taken the day i got her.

Live feeding mammal to reptiles is not my cup of tea in the slightest.

(I edited when I noticed my schoolboy error).
