Thanks and it would be great, plus breeding monitors is a lot more rewarding and harder than breeding the asian long tails.

hey all...im in shock today...my tegu is still a fussy eating have managed to persuade him to eat a few strawberries..but nothing substantial so i will be trying the meatloaf tommorrow..So i thought i would ring the rep shop i got him from...oh my god...basically told me they dont feed their tegu's fruit and veg. They feed them cat food, and they have a high diet of mice/rats....

oh and apparently i have my temps wrong, and that its too cold in his viv..
my temps are hot end 95 cool end 85 basking 114/115.

please tell me have i got this wrong but i ve done a lot of research and listenand absorbed a lot of info of you guys...no i dont know everything.

I was putting him not eating down to it still being a new place, not that the strawberries. kiwi, banana, and veg was alien to him..

Sorry but he will not be getting cat food off me!!

Mmmmm. Wouldnt say anything was way wrong with your temps, our red is in 6x3x3ish, 2x75w halogens for basking, 4`12 uv and 100w ceramic at other end......115 plus at basking,middle/late 90s at warm end, early 80s cool end. Overnight temps, 77ish near heater (cold at moment up here though-bl""dy weather) and 70ish at other end. She seems happy with this and appears to thermoregulate well. I am no expert homever and sometimes things work well for some and not for others but we aint that far apart are we?

Dave.

Oh and wouldnt feed ours cat food either....she is also a little fussy at moment, just putting it down to new bigger viv! She will eat fruit, likes any fish (esp fresh salmon) turned her nose up at steak and kidneys today........loves morios (once a week) and egg. Had nowt for a few days now but for a little egg.....could be time of year to some extent, I guess.
Annoyingly she refuses to eat outside of her viv, need to work on this. She just wants to explore when she is out usually ending up in some almost inaccessible place..........

Dave.

Hiya Chuck
Nothing wrong with your temps
He is being a fussy feeder due to be kept on a poor diet. Try him on some scrambled egg, and also raw egg over other food stuffs. Most care sheets state can be fed of high quality cat food, but I wont use it either.
Also try him of some fishy stuffs, prawns. sprats etc.
Most Tegs will take readily take fruit & veg until they are ready to do so.

i have a similar problem regarding fruit...i have conquered this by cutting the fruit into little squares and hiding it inside balls of turkey mince...so far so good!...turkey mince is also not a bad food for Tegs from what i have been reading, as it is nice and lean and doesnt contain large amounts of fat...not by any means a good staple diet, but certainly a great filler food...and good for hiding fruits etc in
