Smile Tegu hibernation or brumation?

Bit of advice needed all......

Have a female red teggy, been eating less and less during last few weeks or so, put her into a new larger viv about 3/4 weeks back, about a week back she dug herself a deepish hide under a large cork bark, popped her head out as if to say `see ya later` and hasnt moved since! She is well walled in, done a really good job too, had her last proper poo weeks back, just little bits here and there since. Her water has been changed daily and have left her food out in case she pops out so to speak. Also left her on 12 hr light and heat cycle.
Well, other half loves her to bits and is worried and missing her!
My question is this: is it ok to check her out whilst she may be sleeping or not? I realise she may be doing her hibernating bit. She is about 2 year old (just under I think) and is about 2` ish long. Thing is she was basking very regularly under her lights/uv right up until she went down......and was fairly lively.

All comments gratefully recd!

On another note some excellent monitor pics on here....will be getting some ackies in near future when some decent ones appear...oh, and when I get the viv ready!

Dave.

I've never owned a tegu but I'd say it won't kill it if you go and check it's ok. Obviously don't make a habit out of disturbing it. Once should be fine though. Someone who knows more about them should be along soon.

i no you have probly done this but have you checked temps, she probly is going into a natrual cycle but if temp are still up i would just keep offering food when she ready she will feed. she may be feeling a little bit confused by the viv change, and i would just give her a quick check i do if i havnt seen mine for a while my male water hides most of the time i have taken to feeding my male in the hide lol

Hiya Buddy, Tegus if you let them will go into hibernation, it may help increasing there temps, photo cycle and offering food
