Default Mercury vapour bulbs

hey, i just got a new bulb yesterday and it seems to be flickering on and off every now and then, i know when these bulb go off they usualy have to cool for a bit before they turn back on but its just doing it itself, off, then flickery, then back to normal. anyone know if its a dodgey bulb or if its mab the fitting?

I know MV bulbs need a) time to warm up and b) once they are switched off they won't come back on instatley.

Not sure what is wrong but is your bulb on a pulse stat by any chance ? If so that will cause it ! You need a dimmer so it constantly supplys energy to the bulb rather than in pulses

The bulb isn't on anything
It's just plugged in.
We have another viv with this bulb in and we don't use any kind of dimmer etc. but that bulb is okay and this one isn't.

You using a thermostat or dimmer on it? I hear that you cant use them on those type of bulbs

No, we dont use thermostats or dimmers on them.

we actually threw the receipt out as we didn't think we'd need it.
Just bought it yesterday, so hopefully they will still remember us and we chan get an exchange or something
