Unhappy Yemen Chameleon does it look ill???

My Sister-in-law has 2 Yemen Chameleons (they were her sons but he doesn't look after them). She thinks one may have eaten a little bit of bark (I told her from the day she got them that I'd recommend using paper but its a case of her being reactive rather than pro-active) and it does look a little swollen, but I am a snake owner and know nothing about lizards. She said it has looked swollen for a few days

I have taken a few pics and wondered whether you good people could have a look and tell me if you think it looks right or if you think it looks like it may have eaten bark. She now has paper down and I told her to look out for any deposits it may leave her, also I have sprayed its living area (is it a viv? flexarium?) with warm water for ages to get the humidity up.

I haven't posted the pictures up in [img] tags as I'm not sure of the rules regarding pic sizes.

Any help greatly appreciated, I have told her to get it down to a vet tomorrow.

Hi Jason,

My female yemen looks exactly the same at the moment. It has been yellow all over as well this week.

Im pretty sure it's cause she is holding eggs as she is over 6 months old now and she is having trouble moving and stays close to the ground and isn't eating either.

I have a big pot with soil and playsand mix but there are worms in it so im cleaning those out tonight as that might be stopping her from laying the eggs.

If anyone can advise me further then let me know.

Chris

Thanks for the quick replies all. I knew this was the right place to ask

It is a female and has been seperated from the male for about a month (they were living together). It was bought about 5 months ago so it must be at least 6 months old.

It has eaten a mealworm today, but not sure what elsse it has eaten lately. Would it be a good idea to put a plant pot in with soil/playsand?

Yes I would put a pot in with soil and sand mix. u need to get it so it wont fall in on itself when she digs.

It needs to be a big pot, mine is 30cm high x 30cm wide x 30 cm long

Although mine hasn't laid yet I researched it a while ago when I got her.

Thanks all, just a couple of questions...

How long does a Chameleons pregnancy last?

If they have been seperated for about a month, maybe a bit longer, is it still possible she's pregnant, she's only been this big for a few days?

I'll tell her to get a pot in there asap.

She looks lovely. I'd say she's carrying eggs because she does look pretty podgy and she's on the ground alot. Give her a pot of sand like others have said and see what she does.

She might not be pregnant. Chameleons lay eggs regardless of whether they're fertile or not.
