Default Advice required please

I have 2 bearded dragons about 10 months old and after looking at the viv this morning I'm a little concerned. I have noticed that they (or at least 1 of them) isn't digesting food properly and the waste is still formed properly!! The tend to live on watercress, locusts and mealworms. The smaller one likes to spend her time under the log (which I take out to ensure she's getting the uv she needs) but during the day can be quite lively and the bigger one seems to be generally quite well and lively most of the time.

Just a little concerned something isn't quiet right

Any advice????

Thanks
Zoe xx

You might want to check your basking surface temps are within 105-115 degrees, as undigested food is sometimes a sign that your basking temp isn't high enough.... You have done the right thing by removing the hide as this will encourage some to hide during the day.

You may want to cut down on the mealworms a little as beardies can find them hard to digest. If your UV is over 6 moths old you may want to look at getting a replacement also

Ok. For starters, get rid of the meal worms. They're of very little nutritional benefit whatsoever. Being chitinous, it takes a great amount of effort to digest them. I would suggest trying butter worms instead- they don't need gut loading at all and pretty much all reptiles find them irresistable due to their fruity scent.

Also what temperature is your basking spot at?

Thanks guys/gals they don't have mealworm on a regular basis we get them now and then so that we always have some live food in for the dragons.

the basking temps are fine 112 to 117 dependant on room temps 1 end of viv is 95 other end is around 82-85.

Today is the first time they've been this way and they didn't have the log in for a day! so going to try replacing the UV bulb its over 6months old! never realised they stopped working ! I thought they'd just stop working when it didn't turn on!

thanks

What brand of UV are you using just out of interest?
