well im changeing vivs over,so i need to use a different light socket,as the one in my glass viv screws into the lid,the light socket for this one only has 2 terminals, and the earth is chopped off as you said in the plug and socket, however the new socket i bought will have to be screwed into the roof of the wooden viv, however this socket has 3 terminals,do i still not use the earth in this new socket or do i need to saying as it has 3 terminals

if its got 3 terminals and you've chopped the earth off at the plug and socket end, either just use the live and neutral or strip the cable back and use all 3 cables, or nip out and buy ome 3 core cable.

it says loop as thats for when you put them up in houses and have other lights fed from the same mcb/fuse.anyway,just chop the earth off(if your using a metal reflector though the earth will need to be connected to that) and wire the blue to the N terminal and the brown to the L terminal. ensure the plug is correctly fused for the cable thickness. dan
