its abit hard to say because each type of rep has different requirements,

for the yemen chameleon i use coco bark.(seems to do the job well and looks ok)

for the water dragons i just have self adhesive floor tiles in there as they are still young, dunno what i am gonna use yet when they are bigger.(the tiles do the job well but dont look very good)

i realy want and will get some collard lizards which will be on kitchen roll until older then i would use playsand(when i get some collards lol).(again this will look crap till sand is used but you gotta think of there health first)

Just switched to bark chippings this weekend for frilled dragon.

Had been using desert sand successfully (and it looked great) but got fed up of cleaning the viv twice a day.

Bark chippings still look good but less messy.

I wouldnt use it personally, I think if you are a specialist with appropriate experience, go for it, if you are an amateur, play it safe until you are experienced enough to know your husbandry is as good as can be.

As Belial or someone said a few days ago, Calci-sand is fine in the right hands, but bad husbandry or inexperience is likely the primary cause for the calci-sand myth. IF the animal's needs are satisfied the calci-sand wouldnt be so much of an issue

i use rainforest substrate for my chameleons, its basically bark chippings.
and i use kitchen towel for all of my leos and my baby beardie.

The rainforest substrate looks really good in with the chams and i have had no problems with it, and the reason i use paper towel with my leos and baby beardie is because of how young they are.
