Default Soon to be a gecko owner...advise please!!

I'm seriously considering becoming the owner of a leopard gecko. I've read a lot about them on the net & even rang my local reptile shop for advice.
I'm slowly getting there & i was wondering about a suitable vivarium for them. I've been told a 24"x15"x15" is more than adequate, which is fine, i have the room. What i was wondering was, would a fish tank of the same size also be suitable accommodation? As i have lying around an empty spare tank with a good secure lid. Obviously i'd purchase a vivaruim of this wasn't, but the lady in my local reptile shop said it would be ok.
So....opinions please!!! And tips & advice would be greatly appreciated as i want to be 100% confident enough to get one & provide him/her with the best care.
I do have 3 tarantulas which i find a joy to have!
Thanks

Tank would be fine, geckos have small claws and not pads so would not be able to climb out anyway unless you had brances etc that went to the top.

First off welcome to the forum!
A fish tank would be fine - but a vivarium is ideal (sliding glass at the front), it`s not a major issue, but leos tend not to appreciate being approached from above (simply for the fact they cant see you coming and could think you were a predator), and therefor if you`re constantly doing it because you use a fish tank, then it it could lead to them becoming stressed out - especially new additions. But like I said, it`s not a MAJOR concern.
Suggest reading some of the better care sheets knocking about to prepare yourself fully - there are some good ones on the `net and on ppls websites. Though as well, any specific questions will always get answered on here! Good luck with it.
