Default How much longer?

Hi.

We have 6 leo eggs incubating. The first two were laid 77 days ago. I was under the impression they should be ready to hatch by now.

We candled them this morning and saw a fully formed baby wriggling around. Got a setup ready and waiting just was wondering whats the longest anyone has had a leo incubate for and should we expect any problems? Are they overdue yet? Once they start wriggling how long is it normally til they hatch?

Cheers.

Wow that sounds along time. Maybe the hatchlings are struggling to pierce the egg shell. If i was you id just wait.

Yes they are `technically` overdue (by human predictions/guide lines) but the main thing is that they are fertile and alive! They can be really funny things to predict - as with all things in nature. My longest ever I think was around 68 days a few year ago, yet my shortest - and this is why nothing surprises me anymore - was 28 days. The special thing about the 28 day incubated eggs, was that they were cooked at 81 degrees, turned out female as expected and are 100% fertile (they`re now proven)! Obviously, this was totally contradictory to the cooler the temp, the longer the incubating theory, which is a proven one and 99% of the time correct. It wasn`t a one off `special` egg either, as both eggs from the same clutch hatched on the same day.
If you can see the hatchling wriggling about inside the egg - and the egg visably rocking - then I could only say that hatching is pretty imminent.
All I would advise I`m afraid, is to let nature take it`s course (personally I couldn`t recommend helping the baby to hatch as it can cause problems where there aren`t any) basically`what will be be will be` as they say (I know that`s not much use at the mo`) - if something happens to the leo, horrible as this may sound, it`s because it wasn`t strong enough to get out of the egg: nature`s version of survival of the fittest.
