Default Bearded Dragon Not Eating Much..

BD is 4 month old,

Been starting feed him crickets and wax worms..

When i first placed him in the viv, i let him settle for a day.. and then put about 5 crickets in the viv as the owner of the shop said he had been fed that day..

He eat a few but didnt go for anymore..

Eat a few broccoli and cucumber and then that was it, only time ive seen him eat a wax worm is if i feed it him from the tongs or hands.. but if he has one, he wont have another after.

The basking area is at 100/110 f

and the cold end area reads on the thermometer 75 f

He always seems be either under the basking light, or on his wood which is half way in between the cold end and the hot end.. and has a nice height for the uvb light.

I have ordered some small locusts which will hopefully arrive tomorrow morning, as i think the owner told me if he isnt eating after the day hes in the viv, try him with small locusts ( which i take it beardies like these? )

Hes had a stool a day, first one was reasonable in a pile green..
second one he did in his water bowl, so cant actually say how it was lol,

If someone can tell me whats the best thing to do, to make him actually try eating by himself so i dont have to feed it him, as he seems not to bother too much chasing them.

I have the basking on from 8am - 8pm .. what would you say is the best time to stick a few crickets in just to see if he will take some? as i think i'm feeding him the wrong time ( about 9am ) thats why i think he isn't bothering as they are there all day and night running around or hiding under the hide which i have taken out..

Cheers for any replys

How long have you had him? Can you post a photo of the setup to see if there's anything obvious?

he'll just be settling in. I personally wouldnt be worried until it passes the week maybe even 2 week mark and still hasnt eaten. Just offer food once or twice a day and im sure he will probably start eating. Dont feed him to many wax worms tho as they are very fatty. Also remove the crix at night as they can bite him and stress him out.

Nice setup aswell. the sand is a little risky at that age but you'll probably be ok. But........im sure alot of people will have something to say about the sand as that is a hot topic.

Oh yeah i forgot, watch to see how long he is in his hides as he will need the UV light when young to make his bone strong and grow well. If he hides for too long just take the hide away.

Best thing about it, is he never hides..

i was told to take the hide out when i bought him as they don't need them apparently, but he never used it anyway just sat on it now and then so i don't think it will be missed much ( only by the crickets, as thats where they used run off and hide lol )

I will try locusts tomorrow, and see if he gets more interested..
if its the same, then i will just keep trying like you said twice a day until some improvement.

Whats the best time would you say try and feed him? his basking is on 8am - 8pm.. its just Ive seen some videos on the internet where when people feed there BD, they eat all the crickets etc when they first get placed in the viv, if only that happened with me lol.

Yeah i thought a while about the sand etc, but i wanted the desert look as you kinda can tell.. so i watch him to see if he trys to eat the sand but up to yet he doesn't bother and uses it fine.

Also could someone tell me what they feed there BD's, plants/vedge etc as im a little amateur on what to get, as i was just told frozen vedge and the odd dandelions.. but i want to be able to buy stuff from shops to feed him, would help alot.

Cheers guys

We feed ours on butternut squash and green beans. I cheese grate the butternut after taking the skin off but heres a good nutrition guide for other foods.
Nutrition Content

As for feeding times its 2hours after he gets up and 2hours before he sleeps. This is so he can be at the right temp to digest the foods and bask after eating.

Yeah its abit worrying if you never had a reptile before as its my first time..

Just want know whats best for the BD as i couldn't bare thinking i have done something wrong and he gets ill or worse!

Does your BD smell your room out after hes been toilet?

I think its cause i haven't got this disinfectant and deodorizer yet, but will be here tomorrow, hopefully wont smell as bad and i don't have to put up with the aftermath

Thanks for the info, i will keep a note down and go shopping asap
