Wink Noisy tank-glass runners

Hello people I'm having problems with my Sudan plated lizard's tank. I have sand for his substrate but it keeps geting into the runners of the tank glass & when I open the tank it creates a loud noise which is making him quite nervous. I am reluctant to change the substrate but i might have to. Does anyone have the same problem & a solution to stop the sand geting into the runners? Cheers Folks

easy replace the sand with another form of substrate or lino

thats if you can??? if not its a case of having a little brush near the viv (paint brush) that you can use allt he time, and regular hovering

Cheers for the advice guys I'll try the paint brush technique and if I get fed up with it I will just change his substrate. Any ideas for a sudan plated lizard?

If im right theyre at least partly fossorial (burrowing) so I think you should use aspen. We use it with all our skinks and they love it. Switched the berbers on to sand the other week and its noisy, gets everywhere, looks crap and I think its actually more expensive. They need two £3 bags of sand for each clean but they only use a fraction of the bulk aspen sack we buy which only costs £25 delivered.

i personaly wouldnt use aspen for berbers, they seem to delicate for the spikey stuff, howevere if yours work with it, thats cool
mine love and live for burrowing in sand, they REALLY love it.
also i havent chaged my sand in about a year i do a weekly sift, and thats all thats needed.

Thats odd, our aspen isnt spikey at all. The aubiose we bought was terrible though, it was like a box of thorns!
We tend to do a full clean every 6 weeks or so, I think that way we reduce bacteria. Another thing I dislike about sand is the fact it weighs more than the earth! If the berbers were in a stack they would have to be at the bottom on sand.
Also the female has a thing for the little black grains you sometimes get in it. She thinks theyre tiny snails and munches them. I dont want impaction!
