I have to say....I hate the look of paper, I much prefer a natural look...its what all my vivs have...I have plants (most fake albeit) and big wooden branches and bark etc etc and ecoearth....

However, for hatchlings, including snakes, I use kitchen roll for the first 6 weeks or so just so I can monitor things. It doesn't look pretty, but at that stage of its life, for my peace of mind...I like to see clearly what its pooping out etc...I can easily spot clean natural vivs...and regularly do that...but for babies I just want to give myself the reassurance that everything is going as it should.

This is just the way I find that works...I find it actually probably more time consuming to use paper, as it soils so easily, whereas soil can/will become bioactive etc... so I think in a way using paper can take longer!

Neither I nor, in fact, anyone else on this thread have at any point "had a pop" at you for using eco earth. If you read my original post, you will see that I pointed out that both kitchen towel and eco earth have their place in use as a substrate. At no point have I criticised the use of eco earth or, indeed, felt it necessary to make snide comments about those who use it. Others who have posted on this thread, including Pono and Biohazard156, have also acknowledged that both types of substrate have their uses (and, actually, I agree with Biohazard156; it is in fact more time consuming to use kitchen towel than using eco earth; so far from having "told the truth", you're actually wrong yet again).

The only person on here that appears unable to accept an alternative point of view is you; you're appearing opinionated to the point of rudeness. Given that the point of this forum is designed to be a medium for the exchange of views and experience, your blinkered approach and point scoring is achieving little, other than make you look rather sad, spiteful and insecure.

Oh and if you actually took the time to read my posts, you might notice that I don't, in fact, even mention which substrate I prefer.

You miss the point of my comment, I said people are having a pop at me for calling them lazy... This was fun once, but it's getting a little tiresome now, i will try again, I don't care what you use, that was never the point. I made a comment on WHY people use what they use, NOT WHAT they use.

Get over it.

I am fine about using kitchen roll, my Cresties as i stated are healthy and very happy, i dont think you can judge how much people care about their animals just by making a general observation.

If you want to keep pressing yourself to believe its because of lazyness thats your opinion, im fine with that and what il do so il carry on doing it

Unhappy

I would like to ask....
Why is it a simple question of peoples Opinions on substrate is now an argument, to be hounist i get lots of comment about oystershell for my leo but hes healthy all i wanted was some advice *sigh*
i can see why people are getting put off this forum!
Yes we can be helpfull but we can also be realy hurtfull and childish, some people are just lazy some arnt.
i now understand that using kitchen roll for hatchlings is the way to go but for aduts i can use eco-earth ect
Its realy upsetting that people can make an argument out of something so small

Well i dont mind talking about my opinion and why i go about things the way i do in a friendly manor and listening to other peoples views, in this case using a different substate, but i think there is no need to then start saying that we careless for our animals just because we use kitchen roll, its rediclious

Basically, you have insulted people by calling them lazy jabba, so it will get peoples back up. There was no need for it was there.

I use both substrates depending on the age and sex of the gecko, and to be honest the easier ones to keep clean are the ones on eco earth.

As to the op, it depends on the set up you prefer. If you go for a natural set up using eco earth then i would recommend if feeding live food to feed separately, it also gives you a chance to interact, check and weigh them. Also as others have rightly said it is not worth risking impaction.

i comes down to the way u look at your geckos, some people kep them to care for them and appreciate the reptile for what it is and some others keep them for show. im sure ppl kep them for both reasons but which 1 weighs up more? id rather care for my geckos and enjoy them for what they are rather than keep them cos they look good which could risk heath problems. yes ppl are right in saying that cresties dont live on kitchen roll in the wild but then A) what is the average life span of a crestie in the wild and B) these are captive bread they honestly wont no the differance.
