Default Where have all the fat tails gone??

When I first started keeping, you went in to a rep shop and it was like a never ending corridor in a scooby doo chase scene.

Beardies...Leos...Fat tails..corn snake...Beardies...Leos...Fat tails..corn snake...

In the past couple of years I've seen fat tails gradually decline and decline.

in 6 different reptile shops I regularly frequent this year and last I have seen overall 2 normal babies, 4 albino babies and 2 albino adults, all over priced.

Where are they all going? has the novelty worn off? are leos trully dominant now? or are they just too difficult to breed on a large scale?

It seems my year long quest for a reasonably priced normal female is more akin to a quest for the holy grail!

Personally, dare I say it, I prefer fat tails to leos!

Where are they???

I have no idea to be honest. I've recently been looking into finding Fat Tails, and it was impossible to find one in a shop near to me. I only found my first as a fluke in a small reptile/aquatics shop. The guy only sold him to us because we've known him for quite a bit!

Having a lot of difficulty finding females though. We have two males (separate, obviously), but only one grown female, and one gorgeous albino sub-adult female. But yes. Very difficult to find, even at shows (at least compared to other gecko species).

I found two of mine on Preloved. A lot of people don't like going for 'second-hand' geckos though, especially females, but the two I bought are lovely. Very good natured, more so than most of my Leopard geckos!

Unfortunately I just don't like the albinos in fat tails, and its very hard to come across normals instead.

Well we have found normals all over the place lol, we are breeding them this year so we should have some babies

We have 2 females one Amel and one Normal and a striped male, there were loads at the recent reptile shows and some were gorgeous.

i've managed to get my hands on two babies from a certain pain the the arse member on here (gjclews/nottingham dragons) both too young to be passed on, but both now doing well, one albino one normal skunk stripe, i'm giving them a little while longer before i have another go at sexing them, they were incubated female.

i do think they are more placid and easier than leo's, but i don't know why they appear to be less popular, i think they're awesome little dudes.

i don't know if i'll sell them on when they're older or keep them, as i'm not like the person i got them from and don't sell on within weeks.

Apparently there were a lot in Doncaster, but I didn't get to go to that show. Didn't see many at all at B.R.A.S or the Midsomer Norton show, though the latter is where I got my albino female.

They maybe at shows, but defiantly a lack of them in shops nowadays. I guess they're not as widely know, therefore don't sell so well?

i agree fat tails are far more better than leos .. ive kept them both and prefer the fat tails

would love to have more but my mum says no more so will have to wait till i move out or i might breed next year if someone was willing to let me borrow a male for a week or 2 :P

if i did breed might be interesting as i have one normal, one albino and one that i was told was normal het albino so could have mixtures of them morphs if lucky depends what the male is i guess
