I've nearly finished my leopard gecko viv but I've got a couple more questions,
1, Should I cover the heat mat with anything (think I thin peice of board) before I put the substrate in? 2, Does the heat mat have to be on all the time or should it go off at night? |

probably a good idea to cover the mat with somthing to stop the leo digging and getting in direct cotact with it, and yes you can leave the mat on all day and night, the room temprature drop should be enough to give cooler nights.

You don`t need an extra barrier between the heat mat and the substrate (lino/tiles in your case) they will difuse the heat well enough, and protect your leo from direct contact. And as said, heatmats are best left on 24/7 to allow the proper absorbtion of food stuffs as and when needed.
