Default Couple more questions

I've nearly finished my leopard gecko viv but I've got a couple more questions,

1, Should I cover the heat mat with anything (think I thin peice of board) before I put the substrate in?

2, Does the heat mat have to be on all the time or should it go off at night?

Hi, what sort of substrate are you going to use? I personally use tiles which go straight over the heatmat. I leave my heatmat on 24/7. Some ppl turn them off at night but night, after they have eaten, is when they need some heat.

probably a good idea to cover the mat with somthing to stop the leo digging and getting in direct cotact with it, and yes you can leave the mat on all day and night, the room temprature drop should be enough to give cooler nights.

I'm not 100% sure on what substrateto use yet, but it will either be tiles (Like whats in my beardies viv) or lyno (Like whats people have on the kitchen floor)

You don`t need an extra barrier between the heat mat and the substrate (lino/tiles in your case) they will difuse the heat well enough, and protect your leo from direct contact. And as said, heatmats are best left on 24/7 to allow the proper absorbtion of food stuffs as and when needed.
